Peter Hamilton is Director of Product & Process Control at AstraZeneca and a recognised leader in Process Analytical Technology (PAT), enhanced control strategies, and their digital implementation. He has led the deployment of advanced manufacturing and analytical technologies across global pharmaceutical networks, helping translate innovation into routine practice and delivering measurable business impact.

Monitoring and control of food blending processes by NIR imaging and chemometrics


Anna de Juan is a full professor at the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Barcelona, where she leads the Chemometrics group. Her expertise is in the development of chemometric methods for data fusion and analysis of complex analytical measurements, such as hyperspectral images and monitoring and control of bioanalytical and industrial processes. In PAT research, she has provided strategies for data fusion and process modeling, image-based process monitoring and heterogeneity assessment. She has published numerous works in scientific journals and has been provided a large number of invited lectures in chemometrics, imaging and process analysis conferences. Since 2023, she is Associate Editor-in-chief of Journal of Chemometrics. She is also member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory systems and Analytica Chimica Acta and acted as section editor in the reference work Comprehensive Chemometrics. She received the 4th Chemometrics Elsevier Award in 2004 and the TIC2023 award for Comprehensive Collaboration in Chemometrics in 2023. She has organized and fostered conferences in the areas of Chemometrics (CAC 2016 and CAC 2026), Process Analytics (EuroPACT 2014 in Barcelona) and Analytical Chemistry (Euroanalysis 2025).

Carl Tipton

From Victorian to Victory: Building Johnson Matthey’s Industrial IOT Foundation


Carl studied Physics with Theoretical Physics at the University of Manchester in the late 90s. He then continued his studies in Manchester and completed a PhD in Nonlinear Physics with Prof Tom Mullin in 2003. He then did a one year Post-Doc in Eindhoven with Prof. Willem van de Water. These were very all experimental projects, and they revealed that he was probably more interested in how to measure things than what he was actually measuring. A 5 year stint in transport planning consultancy followed, where he built up skills in database design and software development and notably developed strategic passenger modelling software for the US Federal Aviation Administration. (Transport planners were doing big data analysis before it was a buzz word). In 2010 Carl returned to academia in Manchester before joining the Johnson Matthey Business, Tracerco, in 2013. Here he developed industrial instrumentation and started to bring together the measurement and database skills together, whilst learning about the importance of industrial standards. He moved to Johnson Matthey Technology Centre in 2019 has been bringing all these skills together to deliver novel Industrial IOT solutions to the Johnson Matthey production plants. He has 10 granted patents in this space.
