The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Chester was the venue for this years APACT and, once again, the conference was rated as highly successful with a strong line-up of internationally renowned plenary and keynote speakers. Special thanks to all the presenters from both home and international locations who delivered excellent presentations and whose contributions are much appreciated.
Three pre-conference courses were offered and these were very well received by participants:
Social activities were also enjoyed with a reception and tour of Chester Cathedral (after an escorted walk by some Roman soldiers!) in the evening of day 1, and a conference dinner and casino event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel following the programme on day 2.
The poster exhibition was also well supported and provided an opportunity for both students and industrialists to present their work to a select audience. The poster prize, sponsored by Clairet Scientific, was awarded jointly to James Thomson, University of Manchester and Yehia Amar, University of Cambridge.
Also of note from the conference survey forms were comments regarding the special atmosphere which is prevalent at APACT conferences, making it a friendly and useful gathering of like-minded scientists and engineers, which not only informs and updates on advances in process analytics and control technologies, but also promotes excellent networking opportunities for users and vendors alike.
The APACT 15 conference took place on 22-24th April 2015 at the Hilton Deansgate Hotel in Manchester. A total of 115 delegates attended from all over the world.
20 vendor companies exhibited and 19 posters were presented. The poster prize was sponsored by CPACT member company Clairet Scientific and this year, the first prize was awarded to Davinia Brouckaert from Ghent University (photograph below is Davinia receiving her prize from Paul Dallin from Clairet Scientific) for her poster entitled ‘Development and validation of an at-line fast and non-destructive Raman spectroscopic method for the quantification of multiple components in laundry detergents’ and the second prize was awarded to Jaclyn Dunn from University of Strathclyde for her poster entitled ‘On-line monitoring of continuous crystallisation using Raman and acoustic emission spectrometry’. Claire Beckett from MKS Umetrics won the best exhibitor showcase prize.
The feedback on APACT 15 has been very positive. The delegates thought that the general atmosphere and liveliness of the event was excellent. Delegates particularly enjoyed the tour & drinks reception which was held at Manchester United Stadium (photo on bottom right) and the time that was allowed for socialising and networking.
